I keep one of these in blue and black ink for legal forms patients have to sign. they're the best, and don't smear or streak.

the rest of the time, I like my frixon erasable ink pens.

When I was a very young lawyer in the late 70s/early 80s there was a court reporter who was amazing. While most court reporters then used these machines that looked like little typewriters, Jack would come with a brief case and take out 6-7 beautiful fountain pens (which he purchased from Fahrney's in downtown DC); several bottles of ink; and a steno pad. He was in his 70s at the time and I would always speak with him before and after the depositions. He told me that he was a court reporter at the Nuremberg trials after WWII.

Many years ago I went out and bought a fountain pen at Fahrney's, but my penmanship is horrible (much to the chagrin of the Sisters of Charity of Halifax) and I generally made a mess drawing the ink through the nib. I gave up on them.

Over the years I was given a number of Montblanc and Waterman pens (ball point and rollerball), but I left them in courtrooms or otherwise lost them. I should not be trusted with a pen that can cost $500-$1,500.

One thing a fountain pen did do for me is improve my penmanship. I learned I really did press down way to hard and the fountain pen broke me of that.

Coworker gave me disposable after I asked about his fountain pen

Definitely have to pay attention to form

Pilot Vanishing Point Fountain Pens are a lot of fun. Very tactile and writing takes on a different character. The vanishing point means it's retractable, so no one else really needs to know you are using a fountain pen. Tons of ink types to choose from. Fountain pens are a rabbit hole.

I have a few Lamys. I prefer the Studio. The safari was my first years ago but it is plastic feeling. It's good to get started I guess though. I don't like the cartridges, I get the converters. I don't have anything super high end or anything. I don't carry them around but I do keep them at my desk or maybe take to an important signing or something.
