Midland is again the nation’s leader in per-capita personal income, according to the Bureau of Economic Analysis.
The bureau reported last week that per-capita personal income in the Midland metropolitan statistical area jumped from $123,682 in 2021 to $143,728 in 2022. Midland topped San Jose-Sunnyvale-Santa Clara, California ($141,516) and Naples-Marco Island, Florida ($131,160). The national average was $65,470.
It was the second time in three years Midland ranked No. 1 in the nation (2020 was the other year). In 2021, Midland ranked third. Per-capita income in Midland was $141,994 in 2019 and $106,217 in 2020.
The Bureau of Economic Analysis also showed the Midland MSA was the only MSA with percentage growth above 10%. The BEA showed Midland’s percentage growth was 16.2%. Second in the nation was Harrisonburg, Virginia (7.1%). Odessa was eighth on the list at 5.2%. The national average was 1.6%.

Now do work life balance and see if both match

That must be of a certain size because places like Highland Park, TX have much higher per capita income.

Well of course, LIVING in Midland, especially long-term, isn't going to be everyone's cup of tea. I know I wouldn't want to. But that's not what this report was doing.
Results like this are important to the Midland area, though, as it has helped with supporting industries investing money and resources into the public education system in Midland County, which is sorely needed. The schools have seen great improvement in just the past few years, and UT-Permian Basin and its students have greatly benefited as well.

Yeah we have to pay out the arse to get employees out there. I don’t blame them one bit.

Well no shite. But if you don’t think there is a correlation I can’t help you. Plus HP isn’t just wealthy most of the people living there are of working age and their income support living there. They are not only wealthy but also have very high incomes.

Yeah I almost moved my family out there for work but my wife said every time she thought about living in Midland she got sick to her stomach.

I wonder how they track that, because a large percentage of workers in Midland don't actually live there.

My biggest client is in Midland. There is a lot of oil and gas money in Midland.

I don’t understand how Midland is $140k + and Odessa which is right next door is $55k. Both places are shitholes.

Management and owners live in Midland, employees live in Odessa.

I remember Belzoni, Ms made this list once a long time ago when catfish farming was big in the 90s. I think it was top 20
Good times. Parties at shops every Friday with crawfish and hired strippers dancing in beds of trucks, illegal casinos, all the farmers had private planes, sports cars, huge homes, drove Lincoln town cars on the ponds instead of trucks (they had the nickname Isola Fords back then). Knew guys who had college girls working in hatcheries in string bikinis and would fly them to the Bahamas at the end of each season.
Now the area is a vast graveyard of what was once there. Really makes me sad, I hate our government they’ve ruined every good thing ever built in this country
