It's mind boggling to think about 2019's defense and now watch what we have now!

I was just watching some highlights of the 2019 season and it just blows my mind to think we went from having one of the most dominating defenses in the country to cliff diving into oblivion in a matter of a few months and we still haven't figured it out yet! I understand having a down year, but we're talking about YEARS NOW!

We've gone from bowing down to the defense as they ran off the field to now bending over and taking it up the backside from everybody we play! The truth be known, Georgia State's offense dominated us pretty much the entire first half! Why doesn't this happen at Alabama, Ohio State or Georgia? I'm talking about three consecutive years of having one of the worst defenses in college football.

The colossal plunge our defense has taken since winning the NC is comparable to a sink hole suddenly swallowing your home! It's an extremely rare occurrence, but it shouldn't take years and years to recover!

I think our collapse is more than just about horrible coaching but includes poor recruiting, poor player evaluation, poor player development, poor game planning, poor in-game adjustments, poor off-season training and bad transfer portal acquisitions to name just a few!

It's time for a massive overhaul of the entire defensive staff! Defenses should be progressing as the season goes, not regressing as we have witnessed!

The worst feeling in the world is to watch the opposing offense have 3rd and 15 and you already know they're going to make it!

This was too long to read but LSU didn’t have one of the most dominating defenses in 2019. What are you talking about?

Lot of people were giving our 2019 defense shite, especially after Ole Miss. They were never really fully healthy until December/January and honestly they just needed to do enough to get by which they seemingly did When they needed to turn it on, they did.

That was not one of the most dominating defenses.

There were thousands of post on TDs calling that defense out in 2019

They got better at the end but you are WAY off saying they were ever dominate. Go back and watch the Vandy game that year, UT, etc. They were really bad in spots. They did get better, but they were not even close to dominate that year.

1. 2019 was a good defense with a few great players but it was very far from dominant .

2. If we had that defense this year we would be undefeated

3. The two main reason we don’t have that type of defense this years is because Ed quit working after 2019 and left a really crappy situation for BK to rebuild and Matt House is a garbage DC not helping the situation.

Similar to this team, the 2019 offense was so good, that it's hard for your defense to be elite on the back end of that.

That said, that team did very well in the turnover ratio and in the redzone.

In modern CFB, as long as you give up FGs or get stops in the redzone, you're good.

2019 D 40 RZ Attempts | 23 RZ TD's | 11 RZ FGS | .850 RZ Score Percentage | 83RD OVR
2023 D: 38 RZ Attempts | 28 RZ TD's | 7 RZ FGS | .921 RZ SCORE PERCENTAGE | 121 OVR

2019 TOTAL DEFENSE: 338.7 YDS GM | 25TH OVR
2023 TOTAL DEFENSE: 410 YDS GM | 110TH OVR

From a numbers standpoint, the 2022 D was pretty similar to 2019.

When you hold 8 of your 15 opponents to 20 points or less, I would say that is pretty dominant. Five of those eight teams were against SEC teams! I didn't say they were the best of all-time, but they were damn good!

In the last 5 games of 2019 - which included the SEC Championship, Semis and the NC game - the defense gave up an average of 18 points a game! They also played the 6th toughest schedule in the country!

I call that pretty dominant and you can call them whatever you want!

With that being said, have we forgotten how terrible our defense was in the Ole Miss game in 2019 and in other spots? The difference between then and now is adjustments, this staff just keeps doing the same thing over and over relative to who they put on the field, coverages and how they use HPJ

That 2019 defense struggled early on with adjusting to how fast our offense scored points.

They would take their helmets off and 2 minutes later back on the field but Joe, Chase, and Jefferson had no conscience.

The defense found its groove at the right time and Aranda got it fixed.

not surprised when the head coach (Orgeron) DGAF after winning the NC and was fired. He also recruited kids that had off the field issues and quit after seeing minimal playing time. LOTS of misses and whiffs. Hard to imagine the coaching staff (Aranda) analyzed Webb, Sampah, and White over Edgerrin Cooper from Covington. The 2020 class was ranked around #4. Here is what is left from kids who should be contributing as RS-Jr's. I don't fault the kids who left after 3 years and were drafted.

Offense
Arik Gilbert - TE .... left after 1 season, major mental issues, transferred to UGA to NEB
Kayshon Boutte - WR ... left after 3 yrs, active with NE Pats
Marcus Dummervil - OL ...transferred to Maryland 2022
Tre Bradford - RB .... transferred to OU back to LSU, 4 carries 1 yard, 1 TD in 2023
Max Johnson - QB ....transferred to A&M
TJ Finley - QB ... transferred to AUB to TX State
Kole Taylor - TE .....transferred to W. VA
Koy Moore - WR .... transferred to AUB
Marlon Martinez - OL ...... still with team in 2023
Xavier Hill - OL ..... transferred to Memphis
Alex Adams - WR ......transferred to Akron

Defense
Elais Ricks - CB ... transferred to ALA, active on PHI roster
Jaqueline Roy - DT ... left after 3 yrs, drafted by MN
Phillip Webb - LB .... transferred to Jackson State
Antoine Sampah - LB ....transferred to Campbell University
Jordan Toles - S ....transferred to Morgan State
Jacobian Guillory - DT ..... currently on team
BJ Ojulari - LB ..... left after 3 yrs, drafted by AZ
Josh White - LB .....transferred to Baylor
Dwight McGlothern - CB ..... left and went to ARK
Eric Taylor - DT ..... left team after 1 year, transferred to Miss ST
Ali Gaye - DE .... left after 3 yrs drafted by HOU

of the 22 signed players, you have 2 remaining on offense (Bradford, Martinez) and 1 left on defense (Guillory). Attrition was brutal which is why LSU has no depth and experienced players. The transfer portal fills roster depth, but it's a hit or miss on how kids perform on the field in the SEC. Lastly, since the NCAA approved of the TP and NIL, CFB is a whole different animal as we're currently witnessing.

correct, they started slow, over shadowed and almost overloaded by the offense's ability to score fast, but they did jell/improve as the year went on and were pretty strong when needed, this year's "d" is an embarrassment

The 2019 team beat four teams with a quarterback who is now starting in the NFL.
Kyle Trask
Tua Tagovailoa
Jalen Hurts
Trevor Lawrence

Which of those were makes your point?

Correct. They improved from bad to above average by the time the SEC championship game rolled by.

This year’s defense has been below bad the entire season.

This is crazy and also plays a role in why the defense is such trash right now. No depth and no experience on D.
