On average, not many. So for use as a town car that range is fine. But I do have a regular need to take 5 to 6 hour trips on the interstate in the southern US.

It’s funny—I see a good number of Teslas around town where I live. They look great. But out on the interstate I hardly ever see them

Yeah I would definitely have to keep a gas vehicle if I ever bought an EV.

I saw a stat from 2021 that said 76% of EV owners also own a gas vehicle

Seemed obvious he was joking there lol.

It'll never be an issue for me. Tesla batteries come with an 8 year warranty, and I'd never keep my main car for that long. Wife and I always have 2 cars, the backup option is generally one we've had for a while but our 1st option we upgrade every 3-5 years or so on average, never going over 5 years.

They offer 10 and 15 year warranty on the Powerwall2 and those cycle much harder than the cars.

Link says with IRS tax credit. Also says dealers must pass that on for it to be cheaper. Dealers won’t, of course, because consumers will pay more than $7500 for the $7500 tax credit. If this weren’t the case in my area we would have 2 mavericks and a Pacifica in the driveway as we speak. Have tried to buy them, dealers either get the tax credit or the vehicle costs $7500 at least more than MSRP.

Also leasing is insanely expensive for anyone who puts more than about 15,000 miles on a vehicle a year. Link also does not mention. This at all. And that’s how anyone not trying to get something for nothing knows EVs and Hybrids are snake oil…because the entire truth is not forthcoming and sleights of hand are always used to make them seem like a good idea.

I'd love to know this too because it sounds like BS. Seems highly unlikely in Louisiana unless they are just old cars with $1,000 deductibles.

All anyone needs to know about EVs and Hybrids is what their owners say about them and the cult like devotion they have for them. Misery LOVES company and they want everybody to be paying way too much for new technology the same way computer geeks were in the 1990s.

You can also rely on the op-eds and promotional shite the manufacturers produce, like the one linked to, which is a modern day version of a carnival huckster promoting the latest snake oil. If they were truly viable folks would be beating a path to their doors to buy them, not relying on gevenment subsidies to do so.

I don't see any mention of tires. EVs chew through tires. I bought a LEAF for my wife because she has bad luck with cars breaking down and I was sick of dealing with it. 2014 model, bought used in 2016 for $12k. Still has original battery. But damn I've got to put a 3rd set of tires on it and my wife drives like a granny. 50,000 miles on it and it's only worth $2000 on trade in.

Cuz the government pays for all kinds of shite i dont use, should I feel some kind of moral guilt for using a legal tax credit?

But what’s the point?

It doesn’t save the planet. So why get a tax credit?

Again if these cars were so great, let the market decide.

Problem is the market doesn’t want a $100k vehicle with poor build quality and needing perfect conditions for the range it advertises.

When did "saving the planet" become the requirement for tax based subsidization?

You still driving an ICE?

I just don’t understand why one vehicle gets a tax credit but another doesn’t.

I don’t have a Tesla. But my understanding is that when you plan a long trip, it will map it all out and tell you the optimal charging stations to stop at along the way. The super charger things charge pretty quickly, but obviously still not as fast as gas.

They are impractical cost wise for most owners now. I just bought a 53 MPG ICE sedan with less than 7000 miles on it for less than $14k. It’s a basic commuter vehicle. I will bet anyone $100,000 at the end of that vehicles usefulness its cost of ownership will blow any EV or hybrid out of the water and it will not be close. That’s IF the EV/Hybrid buyer gets the tax credit and the dealer doesn’t mark up the vehicle by that much or more. The convenience of the ICE is infinitely better also.

I am happier than a 2 dicked dog that EV buyers are happy. They have bought a bill of goods but they’re happy and happiness is hard to come by for many folks
