They're not going to get another name if they're not willing to pay what they were giving Jimbo. Coaching careers have consistently died in College Station. It's hard to succeed there and they've only had the bump because they were alone in the sec. Now Texas and Oklahoma are coming over there's not a lot of draw to go to a&m. They're going to have to take a chance on somebody. Kiffin would be an idiot to take that job.

A&M is a good job. They pay top dollar, they are patient, and the recruiting is great. Kiffin would immediately challenge Saban and Kirby. But, does Kiffin want the job? Kiffin has a lot of money and he's a guy I could see retiring soon because while I think he's an excellent coach I don't think coaching defines him like many others.

Looking back at their coaches, I wouldn’t say that. Jackie Sherrill had them rolling and resigned to keep the NCAA off of A&M’s back (I read his book, very interesting). He apparently loved it there and still attends a lot of their home games. RC Slocum took over and coached there forever. Next coach was Franchione who sucked. I think having Gary Patterson on staff at TCU made him look a lot better than he was and it got him the Bama and A&M jobs. Next coach was Sherman, an old and out of shape dude. Then they got Sumlin. He had a drinking problem and that probably effected things during his time there. Then they got Jimbo who was already on a downward trajectory and past his prime before he ever stepped foot on A&M campus.
