Question? The 2024 12 team playoff

The 2024 playoff is 12 teams. What is the scheduled format? When 12 teams play it is cut to 6 teams. The 6 play and it is cut to 3? So does the #1 team not play and plays the winner of the other 2? Just wondering the format if someone knows. LSU should be in next year.

The top 4 teams will get a bye, and seeds 5-8 will get a home game against seeds 9-12 for the first round. Then it'll be down to 8, and we go to the big bowls from there, I believe.

Yes, one team skips the semis and goes straight to the final.
