I think you mean James Clavell's 1975 novel was a masterpiece. Not wild about the actors they chose but what a great book. Could be really good.

The Novel was a Masterpiece and the mini series was a Masterpiece. No CGI, great location shots and a solid cast for the times.

At the time Chamberlain was the king of the mini-series. I always thought Shogun was probably his best work.

At least NBC tried to stay as close to the novel as possible. If I remember it was like a whole week event as a mini series.
