The benefit of going D first (other than the possibility of back to back possessions) is that if you can force a three and out, you end up with great field position. This is not likely with this defense. If they make stops it will likely be for field goals. You go O first and try to run away with it early.

And the negative is that if we go three and out, after Bama scores on the first drive, we could be down two TDs. Suck and you’ll lose; it does not matter who receives.

And that idiotic trope about scoring twice in a row around halftime is meaningful only to the same people who are AMAZED that if, after your birthday, you subtract your age from the year you get the year you were born.
