In a rifle case with TSA locks and keep the ammo in original box if possible.
Check in at same place u check in baggage. Some airlines it counts as one of your check baggage's so it's no extra fee.
Of course have weapons unloaded in case:)
Every airport seems to handle it slightly different but it's mostly no problem.
Your weapons case will normally be hand taken to a baggage claim office and not just set on the conveyor with the other luggage when it's time to receive it at your destination.
I have had times where it took an extra 20 minutes to get it checked in, so make sure and have some extra time.

Can I have more than one gun in a case?
Thanks for all the info.

Locks should be NON-TSA.
From what I can tell the 10lbs of ammo restriction is not TSA mandated but airline policy. I flew with 20lbs a few weeks ago and nobody seemed to care.
