Virgin Atlantic Says Austin’s Tech Bubble Is Starting to Burst as It Suspends Flights to the Texas State Capital

In my experience the load factors were due to an uncompetitive product on their 787's and the fact the route was only flown 3x weekly. Meanwhile British Airways flies their Flagship A350-1000 to Austin daily.

I actually didn't realize Virgin had a direct London route. We took BA route this summer and had a great experience. Never even here anyone talk about the Virgin route, only BA.

If I remember correctly, didn't they at one point fly the 747/A380 on that route?

I have thoroughly enjoyed the 787 out of MSY to LHR.

Real estate prices are beginning to reflect this. Inventory is now at an 8 year high and you are not seeing the bidding wars and people paying $150,000 over asking price like you did 18-24 months ago. Plus several homes are sitting on the market for many more days now than in 2022.

Downtown isn’t in good shape either with their very low occupancy rates for all of these high rise buildings you see.

Similar to oil and gas for Louisiana’s economy, tech is great for Austin as its primary economic driver, but it really needs to find some alternative economic engines not just rely heavily upon tech.

Oh, and property taxes seem to increase exponentially every year.

I’ve flown the BA route getting to Chennai 7 times in the last two years. The Virgin route was always about 35% more expensive.
