The first ever replay review that happened prior to replay existing in college football
I was at that game. Dinardo era I believe. 3rd Quarter of a tight game and we muffled a Bama punt but obviously recovered. Refs inexplicably signaled 1st down Bama. During the ensuing tv commercial break, the play was replayed over and over on our new South End Zone video screen, with coaches and players pointing up to it.
The regs huddled up, obviously looking up, and I think they decided that they didn’t want to be embarrassed on ESPN that night. By the time the commercial break was over, they signaled 1st down LSU.
We prevailed that day on a late 4th quarter td set up by a long pass from Josh Booty to the TE.
