Money has to factor into this as well. It didn't for Brady, but he's just wired differently.

Back in the old days even superstars like Unitas, Namath Bradshaw and Stabler would cling to the job despite their body being destroyed and enduring constant pain because they weren't getting paid that much and they knew it was the last great payday they were going to get and it had to last them and their family for the rest of their lives.

Now a franchise QB like Mahomes can make a legit fortune in salary, endorsements and licensing in a very short time, so why hang around and weather that abuse? Andrew Luck was arguably the most complete and talented QB to enter the NFL and once he hit his numbers he said see ya later.

Hell, Mahomes' most recent contract has a total value greater than Brady's career earnings by over $100 million
