Tuesday CFB: New Mexico St at La Tech - CBSSN 6:00pm / Liberty at WKU - ESPNU 6:30

6:00pm
New Mexico State (5-3) at Louisiana Tech (3-5) - CBSSN
Jerry Kill has New Mexico State on the verge of going ot a bowl in back to back years for the first time since 1959/60 when they went to the Sun Bowl as a member of the Border Conference. They have won 3 games in a row and are coming off a convincing win over rival UTEP. The Aggies are 3-1 in CUSA and still have a shot at playing in the CUSA title game in December.
La Tech is starting to tailspin as they have lost 2 in a row and 4 of their last 5. A loss here tonight would make it unlikely they get to 6 wins needed for a bowl as they still have Liberty and Jacksonville State on the schedule. La Tech is 2-2 in CUSA and likely must win out to have a shot at the CUSA title game.
La Tech leads the series 8-4 overall and has won the last 6 however this is the first time the two schools have played since 2012.
6:300pm
Liberty (7-0) at Western Kentucky (4-3) - ESPNU
Liberty survived the second close scare in their last 3 games against a CUSA opponent against MTSU. They got a couple of huge breaks from officiating to win last week and need to stop having so many mistakes and breakdowns if they want to remain undefeated. They are 5-0 in CUSA and have a win over New Mexico State so it while it wouldn't be great to lose it also wouldn't be devastating in their quest to make the CUSA title game.
WKU is the latest school to fall victim to the surprising Jacksonville State Gamecocks and at 2-1 in conference needs a win keep pace w/NMSU in the CUSA title game race. The Hilltoppers offense will look to get back on track after scoring only 20 points against JSU.
The two teams last played in 2020 and Liberty leads the all time series 3-0

NMSU and Liberty both roll tonight.

I'm interested to see how the two home teams respond.
LTU is coming off their bye after playing 8 games in 45 days to start the season, including 3 in their 13 days with two of those being on the road. They have shown some resolve and ability in the games I've seen from them. NMSU looks much improved but outside of the homerun plays their offense can get stagnate at times.
WKU still looks like they are trying to get it together, just like LTU I see glimpses, but have no idea what they are truly capable of. On the flip side Liberty looked like the cream of the CUSA crop, but have found themselves in absolute dog fights with teams that I'm not sure are better or significantly better at least than WKU.
I still give the edge to both road teams, but the home teams keeping it close or even winning wouldn't surprise me. I also had a birdie tell me Tech is coming out in the powder blues, which IIRC are sexi AF.

To add insult to injury in the Louisiana Tech game, we have cheap shot artist Donte Whitner doing commentary. He is the guy who head shotted Pierre Thomas in the Saints-49ers 2012 playoff game knocking him out cold & taking out a huge part of our offense. They didn't even throw a flag on him. That is the Saints loss I will never get over.

Ol’ country Jer is an old school fix-it ball coach. When programs need fixin’, AD’s come callin’. He’s going to have the boys from Las Cruces bowl eligible this eve. That’s just what he does.

I’ve watched a few La Tech games this year and put some money down on NMSU moneyline. Don’t let me down baws

I’m pretty sure the AD had to have a come to Jesus talk with Sonny Cumbie this week. Jack Turner was taking all the first time reps last week and then it changed overnight.
Cumbie has completely killed Tech’s fan support

Louisiana Tech has had two completely bullshite personal fouls.
How in the world is that a blindside block and it negates a 30 yard gain

Absolute BS calls, definitely that last one. Im glad that it didn’t stagnate the drive this time.

Bock-meyer and the dawgs are just slicing through ol’ country jer’s defense so far.

I've got a no sweat bet for both d/St to have scores.

Nice opening drive by WKU. Well executed. Have to answer that.

And LU answers with “Great Value” Jayden Daniels (e.g. Salter).

Almost picked not sure why they didnt show that instead of the QBs reaction.
Like the mascot logos on WKU's helmets.

Looks like a TD for LT. Ground caused the fumble on the line.

These La Tech unis are horrific.

Incredible to go for it on 4th and 1 on your own 17. Just insane.
