What happened here?

Corso called the Wazzu/Oregon St game the "nobody watches us bowl". The Wazzu coach and their fans misheard it because you can barely understand Corso as "nobody wants us" so he took a shot at Corso. It kinda died down then the next week they're showing the Wazzu flag and McAfee's says he sick of wasting time on the show with Washington St., later off the show he told Washington St to frick off.

quote:

We were showing this flag when they were 1-11 in 2009? How about 2-10 in 2010? You were? That's wild," McAfee said. "So when they sucked, you were showing it every single week on the biggest college football show?"

The Wazzu flag is a Gameday tradition and him blowing it off is when people started saying he doesn't work on the show.

You have that backwards, FWIW. Corso said "Nobody wants us bowl" and the coach heard it as "Nobody watches bowl."

I only know that because I looked it up this morning and read about it because I also had no idea what that was referencing.

Here's an article detailing it.

quote:

That’s when beloved ‘GameDay’ analyst Lee Corso described the matchup as the “No one wants us bowl.” But Dickert heard it wrong — he thought Corso called it the “No one watches bowl.” (There’a big difference, because the former is true and the latter is false.)

After an emotional victory in an emotional season that followed a catastrophic summer, Dickert used his post-game platform to criticize Corso.

Soon after the incident, Dickert and Corso spoke and patched things up. But on social media, Leaf went back and forth with Herbstreit over the ‘GameDay’ treatment of his alma mater.

That led to McAfee going after the Cougars on the ensuing ‘GameDay’ broadcast.

“Like, shut up! Washington State, about sick of you!” he bellowed. “Waste of time on this show…”

not just blowing it off, being completely ignorant about it in general. It's almost hard to even fathom how you could be involved with gameday at any level, much less be a host, and not know about the WSU flag. I'm not talkign abotu knowing the history or its first appearance or who started it or anythign in the weeds like that, just the mere fact that it's a thing period. When that whole thing went down it was crystal clear obvious that he had no idea it was "a thing". It's just astounding that he could be so oblivious. It'd be like being a football coach and not knowing that you are given timeouts and are allowed to use them. Like it's truly a basic, fundamental element of the gig that anyone with even a cursory knowledge of it would know.
