Destin has turned into a dump

Lived there for 10 years. Moved from there a year ago. Had to make a quick trip there this past week. The place has really gone downhill in a year since I was last there.
I counted 8 regular restaurants closed down. The roads are filthy with litter, all of the buildings look like they haven't been painted in 10 years. The medians all turned to weeds or no grass at all, the road construction is still not 100% completed on Hwy98. The water park looks awful. That place is such a shithole ripoff
Went over to the outlet mall and could not believe all of the stores closed at 7pm on a Thursday evening? What kind of shite is that?
Then, went over to Destin Commons and it was a depressing ghost town and looked very run down.
Boshamp Oysters (my favorite oysters of all times) - They are actually called Oysters Boshamps used to be $19.99 for a dozen, they are now $37 fricking dollars for the same dozen? WTF.
Harborwalk looked really ran down. The town just doesn't look very nice like it once did.
Now, of course the beaches are still beautiful and I will always love the Destin Harbor, but that 15 year old Mayor kid needs to step the frick up and clean up the town. It has turned to complete shite since he became Mayor of what was once a very nice little beach town. My beach house property is losing its value while sitting in that shithole while he is mayor.
It just looked to me that Destin is really struggling. All of the bullshite nickel and diming that I saw on my short visit was depressing.

I can’t believe the mayor is telling the restaurants to charge $37 for oysters and closing down the outlet malls in Walton County which isn’t even his county. Son of a gun

The nicer areas are now further east in 30A.

What's the issue? I haven't been to Destin in years, but from the sounds of things it seems like a more popular area than ever.

You don’t realize the impact on the city when you left

In a representative democracy, the people get the government they deserve.

Destin has sucked for a while
But the mayor has done some really good things. Just secured some new land for the school system which was a big battle and huge need.
All the public schools busting at the seams.

Was in Destin about 3 weeks ago and didn't see any of you're describing and your statement about your house is complete bullshite.
If your house is anywhere near the beach it ain't losing value.
ETA I will say you're are somewhat correct about Silver Sands but that place has been going downhill for quite some time

I have never been a fan of Destin.

Destin hasnt been the premier destination in a while, but it isn’t on the dramatic decline you describe imo. Definitely not that much worse than a year ago. I would say the change in culture is more pre/post Covid. Not sure what menu you are ordering from but I don’t remember oysters at Boshamps being under $2/. You sound like you have an agenda. Veil it better next time.

Is the OT going to do weekly updates shitting on destin now?
We went from shitting on 30A, to gulf shores, and now we’re on destin. Eventually we’ll be back on 30A.
This places loves to call other places shitholes. I wish it was required to put a location in your post.

We all know why we just can’t say it.
Much better places to go anyway. Rosemary beach or Alys beach.
