I like your nuanced breakdown. But however you slice it, LSU's defense was horrible in 2008, even minus the 49 points. LSU's offense was not at all to blame for the Arky game. I agree that the team seemed to lose focus after the Bama game (what little focus it had).

Also, the SEC this year was pretty bad, esp on offense. Few good QBs. So its tough to compare with the Big12 teams.

And yes, as far as Bama is concerned, no other team has benefited more from the weak SEC. This Bama team would have had a couple of losses in last year's SEC.
