Outside of the cities where pizza is already famous, there's just not the demand for good pizza, imo. There's plenty of demand for pizza, just not good pizza. Good pizza isn't cheap...you need to have great ingredients to make great pizza.

Be it a family in BR, or Tulsa, or Dallas, if families can either get a decent pizza from Papa Johns or Domino's for $10-15 or they can get a great pizza from another place for $25, vast majority are going to go for Papa John's. It's familiar, it's cheap, and most of these folks don't know just how good great pizza tastes.

Wish he would go to Lafayette and try Deano'

He would hate deano’s. They don’t cook the pizza long enough

Perhaps so, but we have a lot of people making 30+ minutes drives to eat our pizza in the swamp.

When I was stationed in Keesler AFB for tech school in the early '80s there was a pizza place called Moe's New York style pizza that I ate at least twice a week. It's still to this day the best American style pizza I've ever eaten.

Because Fleur De Lis has been closed for over a year.

I'm not so sure Fleur de Lis would've received a good score either. I liked it tho.

Portnoy doesn't spend night in Baton Rouge and probably goes straight from Airport to Fred's for Barstool College Football Show when he does come into town.

How many decent pizza spots do they even have going from Baton Rouge Airport to Fred's without going more than 10 or so minutes out if the way?

I actually haven’t tried that yet. Every time I tried to stop by it was still under construction soon just quit trying. I swear I think it was under construction for almost 2 years.

I like most pizza, Schlittz is horrible. It may be the only pizza I’ve ever had that was genuinely inedible.

Very good. We eat there when we drop the kids off at camp and then when we pick them up. 501 prime is the other we sneak in there.

My ULL friends all say this, but then cite Deano's as an example. That place sucks.

It's like Deano's in Lafayette. The locals seem to love it for nostalgia. But it was disappointing as a whole despite having a good location and cool looking building.

Good pizza restaurants in decent locations will naturally have a solid takeout game. I'm not surprised Fleur de Lis struggled during the Covid lockdowns. It just wasn't a great pizza - and a paid off building and kitchen isn't going to overcome a massive collapse in revenue.

I'm guilty of this. When I was at LSU, we'd save up our paw points, not eat anything all day, and go to Mr Gatti's for dinner and to watch Friends (I'm old). That was an excellent value from a calories per dollar perspective, but the pizza wasn't very good quality. There were better Pizza restaurants, but we couldn't afford them.

There are not many great pizza places in Louisiana. It's not a very high margin product and retail/restaurant space is actually quite expensive in Louisiana's cities for some reason.
