Wait,wait!! I need someone to vouch for this!:

My dad had a picture of himself dressed up like the Florida State mascot, full Native American, head dress, etc… he said there was a LSU football game (had to be early 80s) where him and his buddy, who was the Mike the Tiger mascot at the time, choreographed this fight for the fans during the game where Mike wrestled his spear away and broke it. My dad would always end the story saying it was the scariest night of his life because he was pelted by oranges by all the fans, because they thought he was the real FSU mascot—and LSU won to earn a big to the orange bowl.

Can anyone vouch for this?! This has to be the same game y’all are referencing.

I remember that. It was the 1982 Florida State game. I was in the student section and it happened right in front of me. Everyone thought it was the real Seminole mascot taunting the fans and we went wild when Mike beat the crap out of him. Check YouTube. It seems that I have seen videos of this.
