Random Thoughts on Defensive Coaches

Coach O --- no history as a DC, not what we need there. I don't see why he would take a pay cut to come from the Saints to LSU when he could get a DC at a lesser school. And, given his record in any respect beyond recruiting I don't understand the board's attraction. We have no problems recruiting.
Chavis --- his defenses have problems stopping the offenses we need to stop --- UA, UGA and UF. Where's the upgrade?
Bumpus/Utah St/Boise St/All Small School DCs --- what was the competition like? I saw an article praising USC's defense today. I have a feeling that our D would have done well against the powerhouses of UW, WSU and ND. When looking at a DC what kind of offenses did he face?
I think coaches like Robinson and Stoops, coaches that have had success at DCs but, for one reason or another, did not cut it as a BCS HC may be the best bet. There are a few of those out there and may be more to come.
Fire away.

I posted these stats in another thread. These are the 2008 defensive stats this year. Tennessee's defense played a lot better against the teams we need to stop (UGA, UF, ALA, UA) than Malveto did.

As much as I like the idea of having an SEC experienced coach, the inconsistencies with Chavis' Ds scare me. No doubt that he would be better than Beavis & Butthead that are running our D now but still worries me.
