Returning punts hasn't been a highlight of the Kelly era but that stretch of events yesterday was a real stinker...

LSU finally sacks a QB and forces a punt from Missouris 11 yard line. Fair Catch Clayton vacates the area and let's it roll for a 73 yard punt and then a hold was tacked on for another 8 yards. The ball went from the Missouri 11 to the LSU 8. An 81 yard change of field position. I understand Clayton's task is the most basic instruction of field the ball and don't screw up the possession for our high scoring offense.

Nonetheless it would be a welcomed change if the return game could ever add positive yardage to the starting field position. Between this year and last, Clayton has returned 13 kicks for 86 yards.

how many has he muffed? He’s the only person I trust fielding punts because everyone else has put the ball on the ground.

With as many athletes as the Tigers have on the roster, someone has to be a game changer on the team. I’m looking forward to who will be the youngster that steps up.

I get it and I’d like a more dynamic return game as well

But, with how good the offense is playing and how bad the defense is playing, I’m ok with a fair catch every single time. Secure the catch and don’t risk a muff that will take a possession away from the offense and give the other team what is basically an automatic score.

I’ll edit to add: as we start playing better defenses and may not be able to score at will, each possession becomes more critical.

I was actually shocked by this number. That's more than I expected. I can't even recall a time we didn't fair catch it.

I’m not too concerned about punts. It will be rare for opposing teams to do it.

I'm disappointed that Anderson didn't work out. Was hyped about his potential.

Clayton as the punt catcher reminds me of 2006 when Chevis Jackson was the punt catcher

It’s not like LSU’s D is going to force many punts this season
