Sounds similar to the US and Saddam. “Enemy of my enemy” tactic backfiring?

I have a friend who was a tunnel rat in Vietnam. Toughest little fricker you’d ever meet. I wouldn’t wish what he had to do and went through there on anyone.

Gas the Mfers. That’s the answer or maybe we can send them a few of our left ovet Neuton bombs. Save the big ones for Tehran

Why gas them when you can just flood them with sea water?

I thought there were bombs they could put in tunnels that suck out all the air.

At the risk of sounding dramatic, I ask this seriously… am I the only one here who legitimately believes we’re about to be dragged into a very regional significant conflict? Maybe even what will come to be known as WWIII? My only theory as to why we’re not absolutely fricking shite up in response to these recent attacks is knowing it’ll spark a major conflict. Seems the region is trying to bait us into it.
With:
quote:So now, hours later we have more attacks, that speech, and of course the "defectors" within the Dept. of State (with DoD soon to follow) it is obvious Iran knows exactly what the guardrails are and the American people are left wondering.
I'd say normally, yes under "cold war" conditions, pre-Iraq invasion. But no under these conditions for 2 reasons (primarily):
1. Iran knows this administration is "more tolerant" to Americans being killed on foreign soil and will even pay big bucks for the live ones.
2. Iran and it's proxies, knowing that tolerance and the traitors we have in our own government calculate that they can strike, escalate, and then talk "cease fire" and we will respond accordingly. So they don't push the envelope because they know exactly how far they can push and are ok with it. They don't want a broad conflict either, but they know they can achieve their aims without it.

Regarding the 26th MEU and Bataan ARG, is that really all we have there?
There's tons of seapower off shore with two carrier groups, but I am not sure that only having 2,000 marines with the 26th MEU is going to really deter Hezbollah/Iran.

quote:won't work. Ask Bob and Mike Spann's wife about it. With 300 miles of tunnels to fill even if the engineering is shite (it isn't) the seepage alone means you'd never fill it all. And the engineering is such that have planned for that (and gas) with "trapped pockets". Then there's still the fact that you still have to clear them. Period. Never leave an enemy behind you for one day he will rise up and defeat you - Shaka Zulu. You can't penetrate the heart of Gaza to the sea leaving those tunnels between you and the safety of the border without clearing them unless you are 100% certain you have collapsed all entrances and/or cleared them. Me personally, I expect to see a lot of cement trucks rolling because they are going to clear house to house and find every entrance methodically and just entomb them.
Why gas them when you can just flood them with sea water?
quote:thermobarics. and there will be alot of them used in the coming months. They will be used in clearing the tunnels. Everything from Shmels (Soviet) to our XM's will be used in large numbers. Modern day equivalent to the Viking blood eagle when it sucks your lungs out.

Did I see where someone mentioned the C-130 gunships might be getting involved?

I'm sort of surprised we don't see Puff making a nightly appearance frankly. Talk about fighting terror with terror... that's better than any laser show.

You have to at least have an eye on it.

This is 100% what is going on. What has been done so far is equivalent to gnats that we keep swatting. Currently, they will stay gnats until we either decide to fully engage or they mount a legit attack on something. I don't know where it goes, but Iran will keep some amount of plausible deniability using all their proxies.
Messy situation all around.

Makes sense now.
Like going into an arbitration where the opposing counsel knows your authority and limits, because your secretary leaked it to them.

Here is a link to "An Idiots Guide To Hamas.", a good primer for Talib and millions of others around the world who are protesting about something the know nothing about.

The reality is that any country that doesn't run Tlaib out of congress (and candidly, residency here at all) is largely beyond hope. It's one thing to support the Palestinian cause and take the initial biased pro-Palestinian side every time (even if largely unmeritorious), but to push a lie that led to international anti-American riots and continue to do so when even sympathetic outlets retract the claim is insane.
At some point this country has to have enough backbone to purge these cancers. Every one of these mini-crises is showing the gigantic cracks in our social and institutional foundation.
