i can tell you that in my high school, the closest thing we had to what i would call actually "bullies" was a group of white kids, mostly athletes or wannabe athletes, who came from affluent families. many of them were in all likelihood true sociopaths. several of them died in high school or soon after. they looked a LOT like Hollywood bullies in my opinion.
however, in the movies, the bullies are usually star athletes as well. most of the true star athletes in my high school, several of whom ended up playing pro sports, were all pretty decent dudes. they cared about sports and girls, and that's about it. the "losers" werent a threat to them, so they didnt even acknowledge them.

the black guys definitely bullied the nerdy white kids too
