What IS an endowment & what can that money be spent on?

Money donated to the university that’s invested. Normally used towards scholarships, attracting quality professors and researchers.

They typically include funds given to an institution by donors, etc. The initial gift/deposit is never touched but maintained and managed in perpetuity to generate earnings and appreciation in value.
That appreciation is what’s used to fund scholarships, professorship, etc.
LSU’s is managed by the LSU Foundation.
