That was an exhausting trip, but we pulled it off! Left Davis Wade mid-4th quarter after Nussmeier's first 3-and-out. Hustled to the car and hit the road immediately. Was able to avoid getting entangled in any traffic. We did stop twice (bathroom break and to pick up some extra ice for the Ga. Tech crew), but by the time we got to the parking spot, we had maybe 30~45 minutes to tailgate before it was time to walk to the stadium. Got into Vaught stadium before kickoff, but not to our seats in time.
If you didn't watch the game: Ga. Tech is a terrible team, but kept it interesting until the 4th quarter. Tech mounted a great comeback late in the 3rd - long drive for a TD, then a stop, then another long drive, only to stall at that point. I'm not saying OM was ever in serious danger of losing, but it wasn't completely "over" until mid-4th quarter. The LSU offense we saw in Starkville would score on every drive against the OM defense that Ga. Tech saw.
After a brief meetup with some OM friends, we headed to the car for the long drive back to Jackson. Was in bed before the end of the Colorado 2nd OT.
My assessment is: it is not possible to make two SEC kickoffs outside of Starkville-Oxford, or Starkville-Tuscaloosa. Any other stadium, post-game traffic would have wiped out the tailgating time in Oxford, and but for that, we were in perpetual motion for 17 hours outside of watching football.
