Credit cards
Yep, I'm having to carry over credit card debt nowadays that in the past I would payoff when the bill came in, or sooner. I guess those days are over....

I married a loaded O-T 1.5. In the dark it’s a wet hole after all…I typically fake a load and beat off later…

I imagine being retired on a fixed income is a little scary right now.

I'm a Dave Ramsey listener and he made a profound statement in a video I watched today. Something like "if you're waiting for a POTUS of a different party to improve your financial situation you've conceded your finances over to something that you can't control. You are in control of your finances."

Have to pay attention to where the money is going. Insurance is getting big chunk of the budget. Why has home and auto increased so much?

This certainly seems like the worst economic situation I've seen in my 46 years on the planet.
It was way worse when the oil market crashed in the 80s. Now things are expensive, but you can get a job easily. Back then, the banks around here failed, and nice neighborhoods had boarded over windows in 1/3 of the homes with FDIC foreclosure notices tacked on the door. Grown men with families and geology degrees we’re happy to get a job as assistant night manager at the Taco Bell.

I'm about one unforeseen major emergency expense from just giving up all together. Thankfully I have equity in home. It'll keep me from going bankrupt if I absolutely have to go to the mattresses, but that's all I have left at this point. Other than what's left of my 401K. I haven't looked at that, so I have no idea what's in it at this point. Savings accounts and other investments are gone. Living paycheck to paycheck and doing doordash whenever there's money to be made.

Don’t forget $90k for the F-250’s and Yukon AT4’s

It’s rough. We are straight up middle class. Live in an older home that’s too small for us but can’t move with interest rates so high, average cars (mine is paid off) but with kids in school, insurance for a teenager in LA, groceries and gas. It’s tight in our house. I get so jealous of how people in BR drive 70k cars, all kids in private school, living in the uclub or country club, mom doesn’t work but they living the high life. I’m clearly doing life wrong.

That probably applies to the majority of the under 40 yo working crowd out there.

You’re not doing it wrong and a lot of cases your family is probably happier.

Household income of 125k. We both contribute the max to our 401k and pay extra on our mortgage. We do just fine with 2 teenage boys. Both cats are paid for. I have maybe another 2 years on my student loans since I deferred after we bought our house last year. But my payments are only $180/month We still manage to take a nice 7-10 day vacation every year since COVID. We both still live like we were making 60k total outside the price of groceries and feeding two teenage boys. The biggest savings we had was leaving Louisiana. Car insurance went from $490/month to $170/month. Full coverage and same company.

Wrong place to ask, everyone on here is a millionaire
Posted on 9/11/23 at 8:54 pm to RB5
We’re coming up on times where young adults with their kids will have to pack like sardines with older family members like in China. They can’t afford these mortgages, no way. Not with the cost of insurance and everything else skyrocketing.
