Now, it’s 10am and campus is pretty packed and tailgates going full speed. Overall people are just dead going into the game and the tailgate is now the main event

This is true, but some of this can be traced back to university policies around access/parking IMO. It’s much harder now to tailgate without going “all-in” on it. It’s like your options are either A) don’t tailgate or B) tailgate from the arse crack of dawn onwards.

Yep. That played a big part in it.
