and KELLY DID IT LAST YEAR WITH THESE EXACT PLAYERS.
You keep making this point as if Kelly is going to employ the same strategy for a top 10 FSU squad in the season opener as he did for a bowl game against Purdue's fringe of the roster guys after half the team opted out with a celebrity stand-in coach.

Are you assuming that Garrett only played in the bowl game? He played in 7 games last year, with increasing game time later in the season, including in the SECCG and the bowl game.
I’m not denying that IF Daniels is playing well and we are in a tight game with FSU, Garrett getting into the game is less likely, even highly unlikely.
The factors involved in that decision, though, are based on the comfort level that the coaches have with the backup. I believe that the coaches have high confidence in Nussmeier, so it’s not as if they are just playing a wild card.
Sometimes, the relative strengths and weaknesses of QB’s can give the coaches an idea to try a new tactic.
For instance, if we’re behind, it’s possible that the coaches might try Garrett to take advantage of his stronger arm, deeper ball, and greater commitment to passing instead of scrambling.
Let’s hope that doesn’t come true, and Daniel’s leads us to a blow out.
