I keep reading this so-called advantage FSU had last year by playing a game before LSU,

I haven't read much about that in quite a while

but did it ever occur to anyone the advantages that LSU might've had?

No, because there isn't really much of one.

quote:

For one, that week 0 game gave LSU actual game film on FSU, while FSU had nothing for LSU which was made even more challenging due to LSU's entire new staff and quarterback.

An advantage that is significantly offset by the lack of actual game experience by LSU's entirely new staff, multiple players including two freshmen O-linemen, several transfer players on defense and a transfer quarterback.

In addition, several FSU players got dinged up in that week 0 game while LSU was obviously completely fresh.

Players get dinged up in practice and every game of the season.

In fact FSU's most dependable LB Amari Gainer suffered an injury and was out for LSU. If you watched UNC beat South Carolina last night you saw how good Gainer is.

The same thing could have happened on FSU's first defensive series. I am told those things happen in games, seems like something like that happened to LSU.

quote:

It's very doubtful Jayden Daniels has the rushing performance he had if Gainer played

It's more doubtful he has any real impact on Daniels.

So the advantages work both ways. I call it a wash.

And you would be wrong.

There is a reason virtually every coach prefers to open with a team they have an advantage over.

This. Everything was new to last years team, routines, lodging, logistics of getting plays in, familiarity with teammates in a game time situation. Sure BK did all he could to pull it together. But I will go out on a limb and say we will see a much different product put on the field this evening. I just have this confidence about BK’s attention to detail we lacked in the last few coaches. They say it’s a game of inches if so I want the coach that pays attention to detail that gets those hidden yards, slight advantages where they are available etc.
