In Beauregard and Vernon parishes [SW LA] there are about 5 fires still burning. 2 or 3 smaller fires have been put out.

The Merryville fire [mostly pine trees in this area] is the biggest [maybe 15,000 to 18,000 acres now] and this is about the 4 th day. Yesterday I saw that it is still only 50% contained. The fire is moving NNW. I wonder if they hope to stop it when it gets to Hwy 190 which is about 4 miles from the fire. This Hwy has just grass for about 40 yards on each side. There are a fair number of homes along this part of the road.

There are lots of good pictures on Facebook showing the fire, planes and helicopter fighting the fires. I wonder what it cost each time the big plane drops a load of the red chemical? Some of the big "water drop" planes are filling up over at Toledo Bend which is about 25 miles away.
