1994 or 1995 New Mexico State. It was my first game in Tiger Stadium.

The old "meaningless" games are really some of my favorite memories. There's no added hype to those games - it was just plain love of the game. I watched the 2007 Egg Bowl on SECN last weekend, and MSU fan were going NUTS over getting to 6-6 and going to a bowl game. Not the same in 2023. That said:

2006 Arkansas
2009 Mississippi State
2009 Arkansas
2010 Ole Miss
2012 Ole Miss
2013 Texas A&M
2013 Arkansas
2016 Ole Miss
2020 Ole Miss
2021 Florida
2021 Texas A&M

LSU 40 Washington 14 in second game of '83, my Soph year.
Tiger Stadium record crowd over 83,000 - people actually sitting in the aisles. Washington was pretty good but LSU destroyed them.

LSU had lost its '83 opener vs ranked Florida State 40-35 after going up 14-0 in the first quarter; but after the '82 season, there was still a lot of optimism for 1983.

LSU (2-8 and 0-7 in the SEC) was a huge underdog to No. 17 Arkansas in the last game of the year.

LSU had already fired Gerry DiNardo. Hal Hunter was in his only game as acting head coach.

LSU stunned Arkansas 35-10 in Tiger Stadium.

Kendall effing Cleveland. Right?

2002 and 2004 at Florida

2002 - Blowing them out in the Swamp after getting blown out in Saban’s first two years was special. Of course our hopes for a special season were dashed when Mauck got hurt.

2004-Late score to win. Back to back wins at the swamp when that meant something.

Reminder-we have a chance for five in a row against them this year. First time ever in this series. A win would also even the all time series at 33-33-3 despite the crushing dominance of Spurrier from 1990-2001 (11-1).

2011, LSU beats Alabama in what was called the “Game of the Century”. The slogan for the entire CFB season at that time was “Every Game Counts”.

Unfortunately, the wrong team won the game and it didn’t count for the losing team as they were awarded with a title game birth anyway. When LSU lost the rematch, that loss counted against LSU.

2021 Texas Bowl- that game was everything that being a Tiger is about. Other teams declined bowls, the roster was depleted, no QB, we still went and competed. One of my favorite games all time even in a loss.
Yeah, I was coming to post that.

If you look at the circumstances (relative quality of opponent, roster attrition etc), this game should have been way more lopsided in favor of K State. Like, LSU-Purdue level of bad, or worse. Purdue at least had actual QBs out on the field.

LSU pooled a group of guys together that would be better suited for an intramural Flag Football tournament, and got a few scores against a team that was decent and was trying. And when you watch the postgame press conference, Kirklin was ready to go play again that afternoon if given a chance to.

I was at that game. Smelly dome...Fun game!
Fournette running all over the place. Over 200 yards and two touchdowns. His run up the middle to score puts this game on my list.

game was YUGE. was our first win in the swamp since 86. felt like eternity. we all said we were running down the street naked if we won.

that last drive was dominance by whitworth and addai. game winning PA pass to addai was fabulous.

jesse daniels saved the game stopping leak with an open field tackle on 3rd and 6 with like 2:16 left in the game. forcing them to punt.

watch this from 1:21:00 mark until the end

What’s your favorite game where LSU didn’t really have much to gain or lose? Like a mediocre/bad season where we played a somewhat neutral or lesser opponent. The two that stick in my mind are:

Bowl game against GT where JJ was named the qb.

Oh that's a good one. That was one of the most satisfying "meaningless" game ever. But when you're playing Florida is it ever really meaningless? I don't think so.

came to TS for a game when I was a hs senior, my sister was already at LSU and set me up with a freshman sorostitue that was also a Golden Girl, we went out Friday night to sort of "test the waters," everything went well and it was homecoming weekend during the tail end of the Charlie Mac era, I sat in the frat section during the game while she was doing the GG thing and after the game there was a big dance at the Assembly Center, we won the game in a down year but it was one of the best times I had at LSU before I even enrolled, and I was endeared to my sister forever, the girl had asked my sister if I intended to join a fraternity and my sister told her that I already had, the girl was like, wut? my sister said he's going to be on the baseball team, sort of paved the way for a great weekend with the young lass

2016 LSU vs Ole Miss is up there when Leonard Fournette carried the ball like 16 times for 284 yds.

2004 Florida vs LSU where Marcus Randle came off the bench and led us to a last minute victory in the swamp.

2020 LSU vs Florida the famous shoe game. Beating Florida seemed damn near impossible that game but it was pretty spectacular to pull off.

2021 Texas A&M at LSU the stadium was damn near empty but did not stop me from going nuts with that last second touchdown to beat the aggies.

Arizona was pretty good that year. That domination of a decent football team made the Auburn disaster the following week really inexplicable

I don't think you can say either were "meaningless" at the time they were played...which I suspect was what the OP meant. If that is the definition of "meaningless", then virtually every game except for a SEC championship, playoff or National Champion game was "meaningless".

I consider whether a game was "meaningless" as one where it was know at the time it was played the game wasn't going to have a big impact on the season...not something known through the benefit of hindsight.

Under that definition, LSU hasn't played in a lot "meaningless" games over the last 20+ years. So I guess that would leave, for me, the Florida games in 2020 and 2021.

Going into both games it was already pretty clear LSU wasn't going to have a good season. In 2020 LSU had already been absolutely manhandled in games vs. Auburn and Alabama. They also had embarrassing losses to Miss. St and Missouri. It was the first time in over a decade we were watching LSU just play out the string knowing there was nothing of any significance to be achieved the rest of the way. Commentators were literally laughing at the thought LSU beating No. 6 Florida that night. Then the game was played. LSU surprisingly led at the half. Watching the game via a terrible camera angle because of the fog in the 4th quarter it looked like despite the surprising effort, LSU was going to come up short...until Florida went full Florida and threw a shoe That allowed Cade York to kick what may be the best FG in LSU history that will ultimately be lost to history because of the game's insignificance. FIFTY-SEVEN yards, in a blanket of fog, dead-center, to win the game!

2021 was almost the same set up going into the game. LSU had just been embarrassed by Kentucky. 11:00 am kick in a relatively lifeless Tiger Stadium. I think, more than anything, I went to the game because it was going to be an absolutely beautiful fall day. 65 F with a bright sunny sky at KO. Zero expectation that LSU was going to compete though. Then they just comically ran all over Florida. LSU ran basically 4 plays in the second half en route to school record.

2003 la tech vs LSU
Moral victory tech got skull drug 49-10, I have a group of la tech fans as good friends and love them all dearly.
It is impossible to have a civil conversation when talking football with these delusional peeps of mine when talking about their team. To make a long story short, LSU toyed with them for a half to the tally of 42-0 lead. The Monday group at lunch is our day to discuss the previous weekend of college ball. The final verdict from the delusional squad of tech fanatics was they won the second half 10-7, now I know that’s funny but they actually believe if they would’ve played the first half as the second whole different ballgame. Final score 49-10, you cannot understand the mindset of what otherwise are knowledgeable football fans in all other discussions of the sport except when it comes to tech. They are and have always been DELUSIONAL Moral victory U to me.
