There's probably as many auto plants in Mississippi and Alabama as in South Carolina. Mississippi has two (Nissan and Toyota). Alabama has at least two (Mercedes-Benz and Kia or Hyundai).

The interesting facts about SC auto production is they got a leg up in the Euro car market by bringing in BMW in the early 90s which has led them to be the #1 car exporting state in the US (BMW, Volvo, and Mercedes) and also the #1 tire exporting state in the US (Michelin and Bridgestone). There are over 500 auto-related businesses in SC now.
