We have a Toyota plant in Blue Springs, also have cooper and continental tires. Mossy oak, realtree, drake, Winchester ammo, a lot of furniture manufacturers, shipbuilding, there’s more but you get the picture. We have issues but I wouldn’t say lack of manufacturing is the main one.

Just from a quick search:
South Carolina is a leader in the automotive sector. Home to nearly 500 automotive-related companies, with an annual economic impact of more than $27 billion, the state is the #1 automobile exporter and the #1 tire producer and exporter in the US, accounting for nearly one-third of the US market share.
Some of the automotive companies that call South Carolina home:
Mercedes-Benz Vans
Bridgestone
Gestamp South Carolina
Michelin
BMW Manufacturing Co., LLC
Volvo Car USA, Inc.
Magna Seating South Carolina
Giti Tire
Robert Bosch, LLC
It's not just BMW.
