But regardless if it thinks it’s closed or not, in the order of functions, the hook lock at the front still would still engage, right?
Lid unlocked
Open lid
Load clothes
Close lid
Turn on
Fills with water
Senses lid is closed and engages front hook lock
Wash drain rinse spin finish
Disengages front lock
Lid free to open

You're attempting Calculus when this is a basic addition/subtraction project. I don't know what you're referring to when you're talking about the hook lock in front. I'm assuming the flipper thing in back engages/disengages this hook lock that runs to the front of the machine.
Just do what I said above.....let water fill the tub, then start playing with the flipper in the back. Play with the flipper in back until the water still fills the tub (with the lid open). When you get the flipper in a position to where it still fills the tub with the lid open, clamp your clothes pin on that flipper that "locks" the flipper in that position.
I'm hoping what I'm saying makes sense. Remember to cuss if unsuccessful.
