To be fair you're a white liberal and love politicians. It's good art, good song, Nickelback sucks, but this dude sings well. He probably doesn't have many options, or maybe he does well but just singing about the common person. You root for politicians while he roots for common people, no big deal, just differences between you and others.

It is a fairly simple capo 5th B flat 1564 progression, nothing fancy but it works. The lyrics are occasionally tortured but the tagline is golden and a good pro songwriter could do wonders with it.
None of that really matters (serendipitously I am wearing a Dylan T-shirt right now). The message is clean and clear and above all true. Folk singers have been hammering on this message forever, it just seems that only one side listens at a time.
