This, and the "we're weak, we suck" posts miss this simple fact of human nature. As Americans we're not special in a good or bad way, we're just fat and happy and fat and happy people need really, REALLY good reasons to start a civil war. 99.9% of the people who take up arms against their government don't have much to lose.
