This is actually true. Madison, North Ridgeland and the reservoir area are nicer than anywhere in Baton Rouge.

Was stuck in traffic in Jackson MS once and saw all I needed to see.

I watched a crackhead walk out in front of traffic and get smoked by a dodge ram. Knocked him 20’ down the street. His buddy commenced to beating on the truck. I kept on rolling. Can’t imagine being that guy. Do you leave, do you let the other crackhead keep destroying your truck, do you back up and run over him too?

Jxn is only 15% white, most of those are either ultra wealthy old money families living in the Eastover area, or dogooders living in Belhaven and Fondren. Very little "white trash" living in Jxn.

Most professional firms, entertainment, shopping/higher end retail and many outpatient medical facilities have vacated Jxn. There's not much reason for those who live in the burbs to enter into Jxn and most don't. Many professionals who used to work in Jxn now work in Madison, Ridgeland or Flowood.
Simply put, there's not much hope and it will continue to get worse. Tons of political grift and sheer incompetence over decades have doomed the city.
Current leadership has no viable vision for the path forward and not much interest in working with the state and surrounding communities. The default is to blame everything on race.
The state had to take over policing of what's left of downtown and nearby upper income areas.

Kat Timpf, a comedian from Fox, had a show at Duling Hall Saturday night.
You should’ve gone to that show or dropped by Belhaven Town Center. Great brewery and restaurants there.

Genuine question, what makes it so bad? I never get over to Jackson but hear a lot of terrible shite.
1. Unstainable downtown area: after working hours, it's a deserted ghost town.
2. Neglected infrastructure: streets, water lines, sewers have been neglected for years. There are so many crests and troughs that driving down a street is like an amusement park ride w/o the amusement part.
3. Crime and corruption with weak and ineffective Jackson PD
4. All the wealth has abandoned Jackson and relocated to Madison, Flowood, Brandon areas, except for a small part in the Eastover and Fondren neighborhoods, most of Jackson is 3rd world.
5. For the capital of a state, Jackson lacked far less resources than other non-capital cities. Their zoo is a joke, no aquarium, no sports teams or venues, no restaurants, or family-friendly attractions.

NOLA, BR and Shreveport are maybe 10 years behind Jackson
Jackson is progressivism when all the white progressives finally abandon ship.

I bet if they change the name to “The City Formerly Known as Jackson” then things would improve.

Jackson actually is what the OT thinks Shreveport, New Orleans, and Baton Rouge are. Except maybe worse.
You can definitely compare Shreveport to Jackson but BR and Nola are absolutely a notch above the other two.
Br & Nola have nice pockets and attract many people compared to the other two.

BR’s attraction is LSU. New Orleans attraction is mainly the French Quarter which out of towners wouldn’t go to if they knew what it was really like walking around down there.
