They did, globally.
The US Sales were 2-1 xbox. They absolutely flipped the script on the PS3, which was following the most successful console ever (PS2).
Then they pissed it away with Kinect, TV, DRM, etc. Unbelievable failure.

When I was at LSU everybody had a 360, I mean every single person.
Amazing how they just pissed all that momentum away.

Lessons not learned from the Sega Fiasco. The Genesis put them on the map, but almost every business decision made after that was a fricking disaster. Sega's pockets were nowhere near as deep as Microsoft's and it ended their hardware division permanently.
