Politicians have had solution. 4 lane West Bank dump on existing bridges (sunshine and boutte). This removes all non local traffic out of problematic areas. EBR blocks because it wants to keep sales tax revenue….
Also would create economic boom on West Bank. Politicians disgust me…

Well yeah, it’s been proposed and discussed.

The model would be like the Westbank Expressway which runs from Algiers to Westwego. It could run from I-10 to the old bridge (possibly a new one).

Construction would be a minor inconvenience with a long term benefit.

It makes so much sense, everyone knows it will never happen. Never.

Studies and preliminary design work were done years ago.

Apparently the plan would not provide enough graft potential for the good old boys so it was never built.

No infrastructure improvements get built in
LA if the good ole boys do not get a piece of the action.

Airline should be either elevated or upgraded to interstate standards from I-12 to the old bridge and 190 should veer off after 415, and merge with I-10 between 415 and Grosse Tete.

And while poor LA talks about the same ideas for 50+ years, in the Houston area alone Texans have built the equivalent of 500 of these types of things as non-interstate freeways and flyovers.

It's all good, fellas. We have a bridge from St. Francisville to New Roads. You know, that $400m bridge with less than 8k cars per day? (As opposed to the 120,000 (per DOTD) on the New Bridge)... An actually useful bridge south of Baton Rouge would pull about 30k away I10.

Your map looks great if you completely ignore the fact that your corridor is trying to cut through developed areas that will not likely be happy to move.

Would definitely help with traffic.

It would (any busy roadway would benefit for a whole other roadway above it. What Airline really needs is just better flow. Put in another lane from Florida to 110 but also put in overpasses at Goodwood, Old Hammond and Bluebonnet/Coursey (and possibly Tom) then call it a day. Yes, it would be expensive but not nearly as expensive as building a whole extra elevated roadway above it.

Hail , Airline between Florida Blvd and the Miss. R. Bridge needs an extra lane on both NB and SB sides and the phucking state can’t even find the cash needed for such a trivial project. No they would rather rebuild sidewalks that no one will ever use and take two lanes away from Government St. to create a median full of dead plants and bicycle lanes. Crazy beyond belief.

Need to make Airline a bypass of I10 using an upgraded old bridge

Sounds good in theory but can you imagine the nightmare that would be an I12/Airline FREEWAY interchange? The current interchange is already horrible

The bypass should go through N. Denham and link back up around Walker

It makes more sense to do this on Airline from I-12 to Florida Blvd, and then make Florida an interstate all the way into downtown where it would cross the river on a new bridge next to the Horace Wilkinson bridge and connect with I-10 on the Port Allen side.

It would tie into I-110 and could utilized the existing Wilkinson bridge so that the project could be completed in stages (2 generations if history is an indicator).

Best part about this plan is a good deal of Florida Blvd is wide enough to put it at ground level with feeder roads. You could also expand Florida east bound as limited access freeway out to Denham Springs and beyond, at least across the Amite River.
