Recs on moving to Denver

Job is in Aurora - but heard that may not be the best place to live.
Renting for a year while I figure out the area.
Any recs on good parts of town within a decent commute?

Aurora has good areas, just have to look in the right areas. When people say it’s “bad” yea it’s not the best but it’s nowhere near as bad as living in New Orleans proper as far as crime goes. I don’t live in the good part of Aurora and I haven’t felt unsafe outside of one incident or two that has happened in my area. Feels like a nicer version of Kenner if you’re familiar with Kenna brah

It depends on what you want. If you want a cool urban lifestyle you can live in the city. You would be going against traffic, but it still might be rough. If you like suburbs and outdoors you could live a little west of your workplace, maybe in the Centennial area or in Lakewood. That would facilitate easy access to the mountains and would be a reasonable commute.

Denver is weird, there are nice parts of town but they all border bad parts. There is no real clear area of demarcation. Lowry, Park Hill, Stapleton and Wash Park are all nice. Stapleton and Lowry will be closer to Aurora

Definitely looking more suburban - outdoor place. Hours shouldn’t be regular 9-5 - is traffic a problem, or just typical rush hour in and out of city (moving from Houston)?

If you don’t mind a drive and traffic isn’t a concern, want outdoors, I would check out Evergreen. Would be about an hour from Aurora. You would be in the Mts though.

Aurora is a large city. It spans from near the airport South to Parker. Parker is a nice suburb but is roughly 30 miles from the airport. Can you be more specific about where your job will be? That would help to narrow it down.

I grew up on Golden. It’s still a great town. It’s on the wrong side of Denver for you though. The down side for you is your Far East Denver and all the great stuff to do on the weekends (mountains) is west.
That traffic will suck for you but I wish I could move back to Colorado. Politically it’s gotten fricked up by leftists but they can’t destroy those mountains.

Traffic is bad to the mountains, especially in the weekends. The population of Denver is probably double what it was when I lived there and I-70 is still the same number of lanes. It can become a 100% parking lot for hours. I’ve seen corn hole games and grills brought out during traffic stops because of wreck.

Oh, traffic is murderous from the DTS (Denver Tech Center) to downtown. That is from about Centennial into the city. But if you tried Lakewood you would be traveling around the city, and you would miss most of the traffic. If you go eastward you are heading into the part of Colorado that is Kansas-like. If you cheat a little west you are very close to the entrance to the mountains and the land becomes more rolling.

I hope you've saved up to buy that house. Denver is expensive AF for what you get.
Buddy of mine moved there and bought a 1960's home near downtown for about 4x what you would pay in LA.
The town is very liberal also if that matters to you.

I’ve done some raw math on salary vs housing there and it’s really not that bad, at least for my field.
The increase in pay would offset the mortgage increase and I would save roughly the same amount every month.
