Good friend graduated college and was a baby manager for them. Switch to driving to make more money.

They start at $20 an hour once becoming a driver. After 4 years, they make $30 an hour, unless they are switched over to a Regular contract driver, which they would make around $40 an hour after 4 years

Exactly. And his wife was a glorified secretary.

I have a friend that lives in Brooklyn in a house very similar to that, a little bigger, he isn't with UPS but he is Teamsters, drives one of those big waste compacting trucks, they didn't buy the house, inherited it, if they ever want to sell that's a pretty good retirement fund right there, three stories and a basement, great location

They do go through hell though…. Just driving around any big city would almost be not worth it.
They are also watched and timed constantly. Back in the late 80's I worked retail on 190 in Covington and our UPS guy (whom i thought busted his arse) always had people riding with him, timing his stops and constantly looking for inefficiencies. I can only imagine how it is with computers now.

I know a guy who drives for them and they’ve always had good pay but hard to find your way into the seat. Another guy I know who handled packages for years got kicked out of training for not memorizing a manual he didn’t know he had to memorize. On day 1 of training

They have a hub in port Allen I pass frequently. A lot of nice vehicles in the parking lot.

Wait a second, is this the spike that threw jolly ranchers out of the truck for kids? I worshipped that man and was devastated when I found out his route changed.

Hard to get through all the Biden knob slobbin in that article, those are some serious mental gymnastics giving Biden credit for a union negotiation!

I worked as a driver helper one Christmas when I was 18, would've been like 2013.

One driver I worked with was just starting out, he had worked as a loader and worked his way up and was basically a part time driver part loader at that point, was like 26 making nearly $60k.

I also worked with a black woman driver who had been with them like 30 years, she had a super easy route (maybe 100 stops) and that's at Christmas. She said she was making like $97 per hour when she hit overtime. She had paid cash for a brand new Mercedes convertible earlier that year.

They offered me a job as a loader at the end of the season but I had other things going on.

A $170K a year to deliver packages???

I wouldn't even do it for that. No AC or heat in the truck and you have to deliver packages in the heat, rain and snow. You're on the road all day dealing with jackasses on their phones who aren't paying attention. Then you got the wear and tear on your body from getting out of the truck and delivering hundreds of packages in front of doors each day.
