I killed my first deer with one. I’d rather use a bolt action.

the jm stamped marlins are highly sought after. They were quality made guns and hold value. i had one that i bought used from a pawn shop and paid 225 for and turned around a few years later and sold it for around 400. 30-30 is a cartridge that has taken more deer than any other and is a great brush round. you cannot go wrong with a good old lever gun in 3030 and marlin made some really good ones with the side load and side ejection. youre able to scope them easy and reload easy. henry is a beeter action but only the newer ones are side load

I have had one since I was 14 so it was made in the 80s. Fantastic gun. Haven't hunted with it regularly in years. Last year I thought it would be a good gun for my teenage daughter but she had a hell of a time cocking it. I guess small hands was the issue. Anyway, I let her use my .270 and I started using the 30 30. I love it. No need for me to use anything else since the longest shot on my place is only about 60 yards.

I really ought to sell or trade mine. I can't see it ever being used by my family again.

I have 3 of the 336’s and they have been reliable rifles. My son killed his first deer with a 336 youth and it dropped where it stood. They aren’t tack drivers but are good enough for a deer at 100 yards. I’d like to have a 45/70 lever action one day.

Marlin 30-30 lever action was the gun I killed my first few deer with as a kid. Good starter gun.

The 'Ole dirty thirty! My dad bought one used in the' 70s to start hunting with. When I was old enough to start hunting he had gotten bolt actions and that's what we used. After he passed I was going through his safe and saw it and now that's what I primarily use if I'm not shooting past 150 yards. I love it. Short compact, light and accurate and if I scratch it up walking through the woods I don't care because it's already beat to hell. My son shot his first deer with it.

Everybody oughta have one. They generally shoot way better than people think they should.

I can hit a steel plate with mine at 100 yds and iron sights. Every deer I've ever shot with it died in 30 yds. As I get older, I find that I grab it more often than not when I head out.

Exactly my thoughts. Always thought I had to have the latest and greatest now I'm always taking out the oldest one in the arsenal!

Was given an old Marlin with the stamp after I shot my first deer, from a pseudo uncle of sorts and stupidly sold it. Not a day goes by that I do not regret it. Been on my bucket list to find an old used one in good shape. Killed a lot of deer with it (all does and a spike or two, as for some unlucky reason ive deer hunted my entire life and only ever seen does, yearlings, and spikes but it always dropped them, granted it wasn't 300 yard shots or anything).

TLDR. buy one, if only just to have.
