Everyone here would be mad if they had to waste an entire day at a media event where you only got 3 questions. It's insulting and honestly extremely lazy on the journalists who were there.

I went back and watched - I believe the reigning league/cotton bowl champion coach, Willie Fritz, got a total of 2 questions. This guy Biff Poggi is a moron… and also I think the AAC media/the powers that run the league in general suck. Trying to replace quality (UCF, UH, Cincy) with quantity (Charlotte, FAU, North Texas, UAB, Rice, and UTSA) was a mistake

The combination of second tier media and a conference where no one is anyone’s rival…

ESPN dictated the AAC additions. Their hope is that a Rice, Charlotte, FAU (kinda already happened with basketball), North Texas or UTSA (Has already somewhat happened) catch fire and grab the media attention of that market. UCF style.

UAB was a great add.

Rice could win 36 straight games in football and most people in Houston would still have no idea they have a football team. UTSA has had recent success and done an incredible job branding themselves as San Antonio’s team. They were a great add.

Charlotte will be in a similar spot to Rice. You’ve got much bigger schools all surrounding it (South Carolina, North Carolina, ECU, NC State, Duke, Clemson). They will never be able to brand themselves as Charlotte’s team the same way UTSA has.

North Texas has all of Charlottes problems with the addition of an MLB team alongside NFL, NHL and NBA

It also remains to be seen if UTSA can maintain that momentum once they hit a rough spot. They were completely irrelevant prior to Jeff Traylor. They may be able to because there isn’t much competition in San Antonio outside of the Spurs.

Miami will never be a college town but FAU might be able to capitalize on basketball success. Their football program can’t maintain success, they just have flash in the pan seasons.
