Don Raymond, life cut short when his car was hit by a drunk driver. I had an older black gentleman from the Lafayette area ask me where I was from, when I said Hahnville he started talking about the best athlete he had ever seen was Don. I went through school with one of his brothers who was also a good athlete but nowhere near the level Don was. Had offers in multiple sports but died during his senior year.

From an old article in a local paper:

In 1968, Don Raymond became the first African American athlete named to the Louisiana Class 2A All-State Football team and was the first African-American to letter in four sports at Hahnville High School.

He was a star receiver on the Tigers’ 1968 state championship team with 36 receptions and 12 touchdowns as a junior.

Raymond also earned All-District and All-State honors in basketball and track and field.
