Folks, I have been a Pittsburgh Pirate fan since the early 1950s. I've stuck with them through thick but mostly thin. I am excited to see them finally part with some coin and pay our own great Paul Skenes what I read was a record bonus.

Now, those tightwad bastards need to shake the tree and give Paul some support.

I hope more of you become Pirate fans and join the three of us in Louisiana who have ever even heard of them.

Living in Georgia, my manager is a Pirates fan, though I mostly hear from her about the Steelers and Penn State football, and how the Pirates suck. But that can easily change with Skenes.

Happy for you (and him). I’m flying into Pittsburgh in September for Pirates and Yankees. I’ve been to all 30, and Pittsburgh is my favorite MLB park. I wish Skenes was there already and pitching. He’s going to be great.

Been a fan since the We Are Family team in '79. It's been a struggle but we have a good bit of young talent now, hopefully ownership is willing to spend a little money.

A lot of us are going to follow him and crews career for sure. I was excited to follow bregman when he came through but I’m more excited to watch these guys now.

You are not alone!! My father is a huge bucs fan. Watches every single game. He’s over the moon with Skenes and thinks (like he does every year) that “we’re close!”

By default I’m also a Bucs fan. Let’s go Bucs!!

I grew up a Pirates fan, but I could never understand why. Then, late in his life, my Pop told me a story about the triple A minor league team that was based in New Orleans. He said that the 1960 Pirates world championship victory was heavily influenced by minor league players that had played in New Orleans. My Dad said he watched the 1960 World series and saw Bill Mazeroski hit the walk off home run to win game 7 and the championship. He said I might have watched it with him, but he could not remember. Although Mazeroski did not play in New Orleans in the minors, I think the fact that my Dad was a big Pirates fan likely influenced my MLB allegiances (Pirates and Red Sox).

I am very hopeful that Paul Skenes has a great pro career and, being a Pirates fan, would love to see him win a world championship with them. A kid can dream, can't he!

Ok, I got you and me...who is the other guy? Or gal. We are not picky.

When I was 8 my brother was a Reds fan, I decided to pick the Pirates as they were rising up.

I still hate Sid Bream, wont hardly fish for em.

I used to live their hats is the 70s or 80s the ones with the horizontal stripes going around them.

It was probably a year my LL team was the pirates and we wore them.

I haven’t had a MLB team since the strike (when they cancelled the series I quit MLB) but this year I said I was picking whichever team chose a LSU guy first.

It’s a pirates life for me…

It's amazing to see how many players have had great careers at LSU and how few have gone on to have great careers in MLB.

I was surprised to hear that Frank Thomas is still the only SEC player in the MLB Hall of Fame.

I think the trend is changing and we will see more college players go on to be stars in MLB. I think the level of play at the college level has gone up and more kids are viewing college ball as the best way to hone their skills while maturing into an adult.

The Pirates have had so much talent pass through there. Maybe Skenes can be what Burrow was to the Bengals and change that culture. Bengals used to never spend money either.

How cool for us Tiger fans would it be for a game 1 of the NLCS to be Phillies (Nola) vs Pirates (Skenes)?

I don’t watch baseball as much as when I was younger. I follow my teams but it is not like it used to be where I know about every team anymore.

The Pirates used to have a history of being triple A plus. They drafted well and had good young talent but when it came time to pay they didn’t. You would then look around the league at former Pirates players and say man if they kept that team together they would be competing. I’m not sure if that type of culture has really changed in Pittsburgh.

Edit: fyi though I’m with you on struggling teams. I’m a Cubs fan. I follow the Astros too now but the Cubs are my team. I remember how cool it was seeing the Cajun names in Chicago. Fontenot and Theriot.
