I would imagine that a private driver from Rome to Positano would be very expensive. If this is not an issue, then by all means do that.
The train from Rome to Naples is pretty cheap, and the private driver from Naples to Positano cost us about $90 before tip, probably a little more now. That worked out fine.
The transferelax.com link I posted above didn't work but it is still there, complete with beautiful pictures of the Amalfi Coast. Just google it.

The only private driver we are doing in September is from Milan to Treviso the day we land. The train goes through Venice with a change of trains. We’re going to be wiped out as traveling east is much harder on us. It will be reassuring to just have a driver that picks us up at the airport and deposits us at our hotel in Treviso. Other than that it’s trains and car rentals.

We used Amalfi coast transfers company that drove us from Naples to Positano and then Ravelllo back to Naples airport. No way I would drive in Naples or the coast. Once on the coast the ferry is the best way to get around.
Side note: Positano is terrible if you have a child in a stroller.

It all depends. At the time I was traveling with my wife (no pics) and two 13 year old girls (no pics). I don’t think it was expensive. Maybe 150 Euros. I didn’t want to get off a 10 hour flight and then try and figure out transportation.

It was 2019 and I forget what it cost, but it wasn’t too much because I would remember it had it been super high. I’m thinking it was like $200 after tip.
I was traveling with my wife and two 13 year old girls. The plane landed at like 8am Rome time. I was thinking after a long flight, I didn’t want the hassle of getting us and the luggage to the train station, on the train and then from the other train station to Positano.
Getting off the plane and meeting the baw with your name on a sign was well worth it.
