Hate to break it to you, but you're not going to find anything in the domestic classic car market that "you can take care of" under 50k, that will appreciate. The boomers have fricked the market. You either pay 100k for something complete or spend 50k doing it yourself. It's hard for me to afford parts for my Chevelle currently. Everything is hyper inflated.

$50k is more than enough for a good driver quality classic.
