I need some recommendations on someone I can use to replace a Kawasaki fx 600v 20.0 hp. I got a quote from K&D of around 2500-3000. They have a 4 week turnover period at this point. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

I would imagine everyone will be backed up right now.
May want to see if you can bump up the HP if you have to buy another engine.

Just curious.
Mower brand?
How old?
What happened to the engine?

For that much, just buy a new mower.

Any way you can replace it yourself? Replacement shouldn’t be much more than bolting and unbolting.

2014 Snapper 36” cut. Think it’s a s50. Got off from work this morning. Started cutting and engine seized. No oil. Service it this year and no sign of oil leaking anywhere?

I’ve never attempted a motor replacement, but if it’s plug and play I could handle it. K&D charges $300 for it which seemed fair

I would do a search to see the cost you can get that engine for. Then you can decide whether you want to do it yourself.

Hell, that is probably close to what you paid for it.

I did a quick search and i believe EBay has the best price.
1700 shipped.

$300 would not be too bad but i am sure they are marking up the engine.

For price comparison, last year I replaced an fx691 with a fx730 on my skag. The engine was 2100 and the labor was 300. I had a guy near Mansfield, la do it for me. Did it in September in a week. He does good work but not sure where you are located.

yes its easy, there are 4 mounting bolts, one in each corner, the bolts are either 9/16 or 1/2" bolt heads, then you undo the main plug for the engine wires.

the crankshaft pulley is the hard part, its 5/8" bolt, but it requires a impact drill to remove it, or the pulley just spins. after removing the bolt, the pulley should just slide right off, but some get stuck and need a gentle tap or two to help it along.

go watch the youtube videos, they show how to replace lawnmower engines.
