The Mallaveto Project ; HINDSIGHT IS 20/20 (LONG)

Lets go back a little less than a year ago.
We come off a national championship. Miles knows he needs to replace his DC.
He sits down and examines his team. He looks at his offense and sees Ryan P. with a monster oline, experienced wide receivers and tight end, charles scott returning and Crowton calling the plays. Miles looks at what Ryan P did at the end of the season and thinks he can keep him in line. He is looking at 45 points a game.
He looks at a defense that is returning a monster D Line, A senior Middle Linebacker, and a couple of pretty good safety's, so he thought. Score 45 points a game and he has a year where he can hire his boys at CO DC in order to keep some continuity. If he can score 45 a game, any inexperiance the Malleveto Project has can be masked by the Offense and Malleveto can learn on the run and I can still win 9 or 10 games. Sh*t I just won the National title!
Now comes reality. Spring arrives, Ryan P is a sh!t head and eventually gets booted. Now he is stuck with two inexperienced QB's and another on the way. You go from 45 points a game to who knows what kind of offense he can run with any of these guys.
The season starts and the QB situation is even worse than you thought. Your innovative offense is now reduced to Sh!t.
Malleveto winds up being a complete disaster. Poorly managed, bad scheme, terrible biltz packages and just plain confusion to go along with young LB's and CB's. Anyone who watched the games from the stadium could see that. And if you sat behind the bench U really saw it.
You struggle against Auburn away but pull out the close win. Play sloppy against MISS State. You get blown out, FLA, UGA. Against Alabama in an emotional game, he gets a good effort and close but still loses. Coming off that he nearly blows it to TROY. Then the wheels fall off against Ole Miss. You had to see this one coming. Who knows next week and the bowl game.
With all that being said his fatal flaw was relying on Ryan P and not going out and hiring the best DC he could find. Ryan P was an unreliable variable. In order to balance that instability he needed to hire a proven DC. If a quality, proven DC is coaching, this teams record may well be the same but the season does not look as bad. It looks like Florida's 9-4 or Oklahomas 8-4. But Anyone who compares those teams with this situatio is delusional. Everyone was calling Florida a national title contender coming into the season. 3 of there losses came in the middle of the season in a 4 game stretch with Auburn(L), LSU(L), Kentucky(W) & UGA(L). They lose to MIchigan in a crazy emotional last game of the LLoyd Carr era. And when Oklahoma went 8-4 they lost 3 of there first 5 then went 6 and 1 to finish the season. The season is not over but as of now there is no hype surrounding this team for next year.
MIles true test of a coach comes at the end of the season. This has the potential to unravel quick if he fails to make the right moves again.
If he makes the right moves he can tighten this up pretty quick. I have know idea what this guy will do. He is either Mack Brown or Larry Coker. One has had the ability to keep it together, the other just did not have what it takes. I can say I am pulling for the guy and his team but I have no idea which way he goes. But I do think it our right as fans who donate time, money and buy season tickets to question something when there is a problem.
Any way just putting it out there, like to see if anyone agrees with this or not.

I agree that this is a long essay.

yea I understood the reasoning behind the decision. Obviously its a massive frick up and both guys got in way over their heads. Now will Les fix the situation ? Lets hope

you do know they did go after DC's and the co option wasn't the first choice scenario.
and do you fricking people consider 14-0 a blow out?
i hope not.
guess what? we lost to georgia by 14. if that's a blow out then might as well say we were blown ou tlast night as well.

great post. good analysis. Now lets stop reflecting and look ahead. Good coaches react quickly, and stop looking in th rearview mirror. Many of these changes could have been made by now.

The Malleveto Project
I first thought this was going to be a story about an atomic bomb project, where many months and hopes were spent on deveolping an atomic bomb. The bomb is deployed and attempted detonation but nothing happens. The bomb never goes off and everyone is left wondering what went wrong and how it can be fixed.
Your post was good though too.

How in heck could he get that perception? RP's only significant playing time vs an SEC team was the SECC game. Tennessee had given up over forty TDs last season yet RP could only lead us to one. That is a big leap of faith. RP had been here a couple of years yet he was still on a short leash as to plays he was allowed to run.

dude miles fricked up by not gameplanning for RP's departure RPs first year here at LSU

So basically, Miles hedged everything on Perrilloux. Are you serious? He was willing to sacrifice his defense (which has carried this team his entire tenure) to give his buddies a shot to train-on-the-job, because of Perrilloux? Really? Do you realize how idiotic that sounds?
