Your average homeowner isn't a Navy Seal and facing an unknown number of assailants in a huge compound where you might have 50 yard shots.
This would be in close quarters with a person that's groggy, probably scared. I think a shotgun would be better for most people in that situation

Especially if you’d prefer not to kill anyone else in the house and your neighbors. Using a .556 in a neighborhood setting is asking for Trouble.
