Texas has had just one great class, it was last year. As of now the great Texas program is lagging badly in recruiting, currently ranked 32 nationally.

The last time LSU had a 32-ranked class was probably before the First World war.

Texas is desperate

If they don’t land 2 big classes in a row they know the SEC will humiliate them. Donors know this, Sark knows this.

The archer Hallman time frame, if I had to guess. They didn't really rank those classes then, at least I don't recall that.

I remember people talking about recruits, I just don't recall any service ranking the teams based or even real the athletes. Rivals was the first recruiting rankings org that I know of and they were founded in 1998.

I think we all know if it’s all about money, he’s going to choose Texas, but we have seen Harold Perkins take less money. He wanted LSU. Maybe Simmons is a guy like Perk. Hope so.

They had back to back top 5 classes and are in it for a bunch of blue chip guys this year. I understand a lot of people hate Texas myself included but to ignore that sark has done great job in recruiting since he’s got there is ignorant. And it ain’t just like he’s recruiting skill skill positions he’s getting really good guys in the trenches too. They going to be a problem this year

Is he really projected to play edge in college at 6’2? ... not saying that’s short or anything & Perkins surely did it, but typically those 5 star DEs are 6’4+

We will see. If Texas doesn’t win their division and at minimum 10 games, Sarks seat will be fire.

Texas is going to be in the playoffs this year if they beat Bama week two. And getting Bama in week two with a new QB is entirely possible.

Texas will most likely Texas. Lose a game they shouldn't like to Texas Tech, Baylor, or Iowa St. Looking on paper you would think they should win the Big12.

The Godfather of recruiting was Joe Terranova, Max Emfinger was more of a local guy. Allan Wallace was another. There were a number in the recruiting phase. I have a box with a number from years back. Mel Kiper,Jr’s. first magazine. Lindy’s had a recruiting book. Years ago there was a guy out of Nashville, Tn. he too did recruiting.
Most found out they could make a few dollars.

I’ll just try an go by memory.

David Butler, S.La. Converted to a DB at LSU!

Jay Johnson, out of Tx. At one time he led the SEC in YPC, for a Freshman.

Robert Toomer, Ga. He’s a high school coach.

Artie Moore, out of Ms. Transferred to a SWAC.

Robert Davis out of Alabama.

In that same class Eddie Kennison, Dave LaFleur, Gabe Northern, Ben Bordelon and Jamie Howard. They had a few more, many you might not remember.

Archer considered a great cutting edge coach (very young) but he didn’t recruit very well. On the other end Hallman recruited very well but was a god awful coach.

I read an SI article in 1994 after signing day that talked about Josh Booty and it talked about that 1994 class was #1 in America that year in recruiting. I think Maxpreps ranked them back then.
